Diospyros kaki – the persimmon tree

Additions to the repertory entry of the remedy Diosp-k-c

The dropping of the plutonium bomb over Nagasaki on 9 August 1945 signalled the end of the Second World War. The city of Nagasaki was almost completely destroyed and a large proportion of the population lost their lives. Near the epicentre a tree survived the attack: a persimmon tree (Diospyros kaki). This tree withstood the inferno and it is this vitality that makes the persimmon the world tree.

After the detonation of the atomic bomb death raged at the site of the tree. Survivors were confronted with dreadful illnesses – cancer, leukaemia, internal bleeding, deformities, hair loss and swollen scars. The world tree is a symbol for the end of the Second World War; it symbolises the ending of destruction, domination, rape and death and brings new life and hope.

About five years ago the remedy Diospyros kaki Creveld was developed. Since then I have been able to gather a lot of experience with this remedy in my own practice. Other therapists have also achieved good results with it. The experiences confirm that Diospyros works very well for the complex of issues I described in my dream proving[1] and in my book[2]. The remedy was used in patients who suffered from the severe physical and psychological consequences of war-related post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSS, in first and second generation), who had survived prison camps (first and second generation) or imprisonment, torture, rape and incest. Positive results were also achieved in patients who had been adopted as infants from Asian countries. From their histories, fears and dreams we inferred that their mothers had very likely been severely traumatised at conception or during pregnancy. Patients who had survived burns and therefore showed severe symptoms also reacted well to the remedy, e.g. the victims of the Volendam fire disaster[3]. Diospyros kaki was used successfully to treat unwanted side-effects of chemo- and radiotherapy. In some cases tumours or metastases disappeared (during or after treatment) earlier than expected.

Recently I prepared some additions to the English-language repertory which are listed there under Diosp-k-c. Partly these additions (232) were derived from the results of the proving. Additionally reliable and permanently cured symptoms observed in successfully treated cases were included. A total of 1900 additions were made, including 512 mental symptoms, 184 general symptoms and 421 dream symptoms. Most entries are in grade 1. Data arising from a combination of proving and positive case histories, or observed in several patients, are in grade 2 or 3. Additions that I consider key symptoms of the remedy are largely listed in grade 3.
