Diospyros kaki – a new trauma remedy for homoeopathy

Diospyros kaki – a new trauma remedy for homeopathy

By Marijke Creveld

Introduction:

The dropping of the plutonium bomb on Nagasaki on 9 August 1945 signalled the end of the Second World War. The city of Nagasaki was almost completely destroyed and a large proportion of the population lost their lives. Near the epicentre a tree survived the attack: a kaki tree (Diospyros kaki). This tree withstood the inferno and it is this vitality that makes the kaki tree a world tree.

The proving:

The remedy was blind-proved in C200 potency (dream-proving). The dreams were mainly about the themes of survival, uncertainty, danger, soldiers and rape. Images of death, fire and destroyed houses also recurred and symbolise serious and severe illnesses.

Results:

The medicine Diospyros kaki Creveld has now been used for four and a half years and I have achieved good results with it in more than 30 patients. Other homeopaths also report satisfactory results with this remedy.

Diospyros kaki Creveld has proven particularly useful in the treatment of psychological and physical complaints following traumatic experiences. These include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to war or fire, side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and poisoning from radioactivity and chemicals. The remedy promotes detoxification. It has a positive effect on the skin and relieves, for example, the itching that often occurs after burns. It has also been helpful for ENT complaints, asthma and multiple sclerosis.

Five short case studies on PTSD:

I would like briefly to present some cases of war trauma that were successfully treated with Diospyros kaki Creveld

The first case concerns a man, born in 1954, who had fled from his home country Chile to Europe. He came to me after a brain tumour had been treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy Spektrum_Trauma_cover_200.jpg. Under the military dictatorship he had been arrested and tortured and suffered multiple traumas. As a result he has nightmares. The brain tumour was diagnosed in 1999, treated with chemotherapy in 2000 and 2002, and received radiotherapy in 2002. I prescribed Diospyros for him. After taking it he improved significantly and recovered physically very quickly. His dreams were no longer so severe, and he now dreams more of his youth. He realised that the shift from hope to the struggle for survival and the fight for justice had taken place in his youth. He wrote to me: ‘I am very pleased with this development and am impressed. Diospyros kaki gives me a lot of strength both physically and mentally. I feel great respect and gratitude.’

The second patient was born in Sierra Leone in 1986. He has a war background; his father was murdered in front of him. He was to serve as a child soldier but fled with his mother, who died in his arms. He then managed to escape to Europe. There he was raped. His nightmares literally robbed him of sleep. He often imagined that someone was standing behind him. At first he could not speak about his problems; he was angry and very stubborn. He had terrible headaches. His head felt hot, as if a fire were raging inside it.

He was given Diospyros. The next day he reported to his therapist that he had slept well and had had no nightmares. He was cheerful and even laughed. That day he had even worked as a painter in a house. Two months later he felt much better physically, mentally and emotionally. The nightmares did not return. He felt happy and was now able to speak about his parents.

The third case concerns a Jewish woman, born in 1939, now living in Israel. Her daughter was raped and her son served in the army during the Intifada (Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation). She had always felt very nervous and came to me for treatment of breast cancer. I prescribed her Diospyros. After taking the remedy her anxieties improved and she felt freer and happier.

The fourth patient is a woman, born in 1936. In her childhood she spent a lot of time abroad and was held as a Japanese prisoner of war. She experienced many fire disasters (bombings) and as a teenager she was exposed to DDT on a weekly basis. Later she worked as a laboratory assistant and was exposed to radioactive radiation (once she worked without protective measures with cobalt-60).

Between 1964 and 1969 she developed multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair. She was treated homeopathically with Causticum and has since been able to walk again, but still had a few complaints. She currently has asthma. She often dreams of explosions and fire and I prescribed her Diospyros. Her physical and psychological problems were noticeably reduced afterwards. Fine motor control in her hands was restored and coordination in her legs improved; she was even able to run again. The asthma also improved. Since then she has had hardly any attacks and her dreams have calmed down.

The last case concerns a patient born in Holland in 1945, i.e. at the end of the Second World War. She consulted me because of her sleep disturbances. In her mother’s last month of pregnancy and in her first months of life the war raged especially fiercely.

Today she campaigns for the rights of refugees and has worked, among other things, in a Third World shop. She fears becoming homeless and is terrified of an atomic war. She does not sleep well and often has nightmares of fire. She wakes every ten minutes. Even as a child she always had to be on her guard. She suffers from anxiety, is often nervous and hyperventilates. I prescribed her Diospyros. She now sleeps better, no longer wakes every ten minutes and no longer has bad dreams. She is less nervous and feels freer. She no longer has to hyperventilate so often and has more energy.
