Candida albicans - infections

News

Many women know the unpleasant vaginal yeast infection, also called candidiasis, which occurs when the fungus belonging to the yeasts, Candida albicans, spreads and disturbs the healthy vaginal flora. In healthy people this fungus usually causes no symptoms because its spread is counteracted by the natural colonisation with lactic acid bacteria (lactobacilli).

In a healthy immune system the yeast and the lactic acid bacteria are in balance. However, if this balance is disturbed, an excessive colonisation of the mucous membranes with Candida albicans can occur. Factors that can cause such a disturbance include, among others, antibiotics, oral contraceptives (the pill) and medications that suppress the body's natural immune defence (e.g. cortisone). Sugar and an unhealthy diet based mainly on convenience foods and processed products also contribute. There are also certain foods that favour a Candida colonisation, such as bread and other baked goods, honey or even too much fruit.

I need hardly mention that a healthy diet and giving up strong indulgences and/or drugs are essential components of any Candida treatment. Hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy or the menopause, can also disturb the natural balance. Poor diet and drugs are not always automatically to blame here.

If the rapid colonisation by the Candida fungus is not halted, it can produce a whole range of symptoms: digestive disorders with abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and/or mucus in the stool; itching in the ears, vagina, anus or on the skin; acne and eczema; in women there may be painful periods, fertility problems and loss of libido; emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, mood swings and concentration difficulties are also part of the symptom picture.

Conventional medicine focuses on eradication of the pathogen in the treatment of candidiasis, which can bring unpleasant side effects for the patient. It is not uncommon for the fungus to recolonise as soon as treatment is stopped. Our aim is not to suppress the symptoms, but to restore the patient's health – comprehensively. To achieve this goal I would like to present my treatment protocol to you at this point.

Homeopathy is a gentle, effective and at the same time safe treatment method that not only restores physical health but also significantly reduces susceptibility to fungal infections.

A homeopathic treatment of candidiasis usually leads to a noticeable improvement in symptoms within a week, but must be carried out consistently over a period of 3–5 months to solve the problem permanently and thus prevent recurrence.

At this point I would like to introduce homeopathic remedies that are most commonly used to treat a vaginal yeast infection. Beforehand I would like to note that in my practice the treatment protocol of Dr Prasanta Banerji from Calcutta has proved effective. In around 80% of patients suffering from candidiasis the repeated use of Mercurius solubilis C200, taken once daily, has proven very effective. If the symptoms are accompanied by severe itching, I recommend taking Arsenicum album C200 twice daily.

If neither of these remedies takes effect (you must take the remedies for several weeks; only then will you be able to judge whether the chosen remedy is working or not), one of the following remedies could also be considered. But I am fairly sure you will not have to go that far.

Kreosotum C30: Patients who need Kreosotum suffer from extremely intense itching that is accompanied by burning of the vulva, labia and thighs. The vaginal discharge is abundant, watery and may be yellowish. It is acrid and causes rawness, burning and red pimples on the vulva and labia.

Calcarea carbonica C30: In patients who need this remedy one will very likely find a copious, persistent, milky-white or yellowish vaginal discharge, accompanied by itching and burning. In addition, patients often experience a strong morning appetite, suffer from heartburn and have cold, clammy feet.

Sepia C30: Women who suffer from recurrent candidiasis and urinary tract infections should consider this remedy. The vaginal discharge is yellowish-green, tends to smell unpleasant and often worsens before the period. Lower abdominal pain then occurs as an accompanying symptom. These women are usually taking oral contraceptives, or feel overwhelmed by their duties as a mother.

Natrium muriaticum C30: This salt, which naturally occurs in human cells, is an excellent remedy for women who suffer from watery discharge and are prone to allergic conditions of the skin and respiratory tract. Acne or cold sores are not uncommon here.

Personally, I attach great importance to knowing how to treat such problems oneself – effectively, cost-efficiently and without having to resort to a doctor's prescription and risky medications. I want to share this knowledge with you so that you can benefit from it too.

Please pass on your knowledge to your friends!
