Friday, 20 March 2009 - Birgit Gnadl on cattle The opening of the Animal Homeopathy Congress on Friday was presented by Birgit Gnadl with her lecture on cattle. The rustic Bavarian farmer and animal homeopath began the day with an introduction to homeopathy, so that even farmers who had not yet had the opportunity to become familiar with homeopathy understood how it works and how it is applied. She explained in which form, potency and frequency the remedies are administered (in some cases it is very effective to dissolve the globules and spray them onto the animal's nose using a spray bottle). Around the time of birth Gnadl described which remedies best prepare for parturition so that it proceeds with as few complications as possible, likewise that Arnica is the first "wound remedy" after birth and which other remedies are used for which complaints. Gnadl explained that it is advisable – and now also the teaching opinion – to refrain from using implants with antibiotics for retained placenta, since most cows develop resistance to this antibiotic and infections and endometritis can occur. In calves this approach can lead to resistance to that antibiotic. The homeopathic treatment of fertility disorders and their possible causes was discussed in detail, as were mastitis and udder health. Treating calves homeopathically was another interesting topic on Gnadl's programme. She explained how therapy for aspiration of amniotic fluid begins by lifting the newborn (min. 5 minutes) so that mucus can drain from the airways through the nose and mouth and how the subsequent proven homeopathic therapy is continued. Worm diseases, whose only symptom is often a prolapse of the nictitating membrane, reduce milk yield by about 4%. These parasites can be treated very well with a naturopathic method described by Gnadl. ~video(05417_Sehprobe_gnadl_1.flv;1. Sample viewing Birgit Gnadl)~ |

The possible causes of calf diarrhoea and the corresponding homeopathic therapy were explained in great detail. |
As with humans, vaccine damage is increasingly a cause of illness in animals. Gnadl shows the options available to an animal owner for illnesses after vaccination, using various remedies and their symptoms in the animal, for example Malandrinum: this nosode is necessary when severe skin damage occurs after vaccination – cracked, dried, scarred – or when the skin becomes chronically hardened. At the end of the day even the farmer or animal keeper who had not previously treated his cattle homeopathically had the opportunity to treat many common diseases and fertility problems without side effects and to prevent many complaints. Professionals gained many new perspectives for the successful treatment of cattle. Many cattle diseases were discussed in detail and for those interested who were perhaps unable to attend the lecture due to time constraints, there is this day or all 3 days on DVD. ~video(05417_Sehprobe_gnadl_2.flv;2. She showed how many diseases can be prevented or positively influenced in advance by correct riding and certain handling behaviours – for further study she recommends among other things the book: Medizinische Reitlehre by Stodulka (also as DVD part 1-4, DVD part 5). She also explained why many horses become ill from well-meant supplements such as Arnica or sulphur and why one should not administer homeopathic remedies daily for years. She pointed out that oats and good hay are the best feed for horses. ~video(05417_Sehprobe_krueger.flv;Sample viewing C. Krueger)~ |

Krüger explained how to distinguish between acute and chronic lameness, which are the main homeopathic remedies for these conditions and how to support the horse with homeopathy when transitioning to "barefoot" work. She showed what the "bow" of the flexor tendon looks like when it is swollen and how to recognise the appropriate remedy for it. Remedies for colds and recumbency were described as well as those for navicular and hoof sole diseases. Among other things she showed how splints develop in young horses, how they can be avoided and how they are treated. |
Chronic consequences of injuries and tendon diseases were also a topic, as were bone/joint diseases, tension and weakness. Dwarfism, intestinal paralysis in foals, growing pains and colic with their many different remedies and their allocation by various symptoms, for example the cramp colic of Colocynthis, which can also be caused by too much fruit, were impressively differentiated. Many thanks to Christiane Krüger for this instructive day which gives many horse owners hope for better health. Sunday, 22 March 09 - Dominique Fraefel on dogs and cats Dominique Fraefel – and thus the day for all those who wanted to improve or perfect their anamnesis technique and the treatment of dogs and cats – had arrived. Fraefel began his lecture with some case examples of sick animals on video, including a case of osteosarcoma, in which he described how he proceeded during anamnesis. Digestive disorders of various kinds were the main topic in the morning – he explained the conditions and the suitable remedies which he differentiated very well. Already at this point he pointed out that in the anamnesis "disease-typical" complaints – such as thirst in diabetes – should not be evaluated, as they can distort the repertorisation. |

The highlight of the day was a live anamnesis. A 22-month-old retriever bitch arrived with her owner. The animal, which suffers from epilepsy and has had repeated seizures since October last year, moved freely around the lecture hall during the anamnesis; this was very important for the anamnesis as it allowed the behaviour of the animal – also towards the owner – to be better recognised. Fraefel conducted a thorough anamnesis and then discussed the further course of action for the animal with the owner.
|
Finally, Fraefel discussed with the participants how he had proceeded with the anamnesis and why he had done it that way. He also explained where common mistakes in anamnesis lie that later negatively affect the remedy choice. A very good example of an anamnesis that will certainly have a positive effect on our future cases. The Phosphorus cat – a remedy picture that, once described by Fraefel, is certainly not found more clearly or memorably anywhere else – anyone who has seen this remedy description in Fraefel's videos will not forget it! In the evening the seminar participants were very well equipped and one big step closer to the suitable similimum – the next anamnesis can come. A DVD is also available from this day. ~video(05420_Sehprobe_fraefel.flv;1. Sample viewing Fraefel)~
