Belladonna

Don't forget, a tip is only the tip of the iceberg! It is only part of a whole set of symptoms and should inspire further investigation.

Certain formulations used in isolation, such as "take this for that", can cause the treatment to fail or may lead to suppressions.

Food incompatibilities:

Vinegar: Belladonna and Borax patients should avoid vinegar because it delays the action of these remedies.

Wine: Arnica, Acidum Benzoicum, Borax, Zinc, Selenium, Ranunculus and Angophora patients should avoid wine.

Coffee: Acidum Lacticum patients should avoid coffee because it worsens the symptoms.

Acidum Fluoricum and Silicea:

Acidum Fluoricum and Silicea act complementarily and are often given one after the other in bone diseases.

Acidum Fluoricum is improved by cold and Silicea cannot tolerate cold. E.A. Farrington – Lectures on Clinical Materia Medica.

Sexual excesses or celibacy:

Conium is very effective in treating the effects of sexual excesses. It treats melancholy, aversion to society and fear of being alone. It may also be given when the mental state arises from sexual abstinence.

Avoid the rain!

Dulcamara: Complaints from rainy weather and changes from warm to cold. Worse before a storm and from cold air, from sweating and suppressed expectoration. Better from movement and in warm, dry weather. Cough after exertion. Burning thirst for cold drinks. Dominant, strong character, possessive and quarrelsome.

Defatted cow's milk:

Lac Vaccinum Defloratum - Fear in confined spaces, aversion to society; sadness, better by talking. Delusion that her friends are dead and that she must enter a convent; suicidal ideas; she thinks about the simplest way to kill herself. Aversion to and aggravation from milk and chilli. Worse from cold, lack of sleep, noise and movement.

Cow's milk - Lac Vaccinum:

is nervous and depressed. The symptoms appear on both sides simultaneously (with Lac c. alternately). Frequent passage of large amounts of clear urine. Blindness comes and goes. Rheumatic knee complaints. Flat white ulcers and mucus on the tongue. Sharp pain on both sides of the sternum.

Cat's milk- Lac Felinum: Fear of needles and sharp objects. Delusion that these sharp objects will stab into her eye. Morbid conscience that condemns every small fault as a crime. Sharp pain in the centre of the left eyeball. Headache with pain in the left eyeball radiating to the spine. Desire to eat paper. Worse when lying on the left side.

Mother's milk - Lac Humanum:

Tinus Smits sees the main problem as poor incarnation, homesickness for the astral world and fear of responsibility in the physical world. Detached, not centred.

The patient's energy is easily influenced by the energy of other people or the environment. No mental clarity. Indifferent to suffering. He is helpful to others in order to be accepted by them and not to be alone. Has two sides. Sadness during the period; disturbed eating behaviour, craving for sweets and carbohydrates, chocolate and salt, ham and ginger. No thirst. Fissures at the corners of the mouth. Nausea from food odours, chilli. Chest pain from the sternum to the back.

The Stannum man - Stannum: severe weakness in the chest, can hardly speak. Mental and physical exhaustion. Pains come on and off gradually. Lilium Tigrinum: Produces an angina-like condition. Sharp, radiating pain, constrictions in the chest. Sensitive to heat and worse on movement. Phosphorus. Case report with thanks to Dr. Clarke

It was on an icy December night. I had closed my clinic an hour earlier than usual and was sitting relaxed with my family in front of the television when there was a knock at the door at about 11 pm. Two men wrapped in thick scarves asked me for medical help. The sick man began to describe his illness in a very weak and pain-distorted tone: after a wedding feast he developed a sore throat. With the help of his brother, who accompanied him, he said that he was already having great difficulty swallowing liquids. He also had severe burning pains in the oesophagus.

I thought of Belladonna and Gelsemium, and gave him these, advising him to come to my clinic the next morning. The following day I looked up the exact symptoms in the homeopathic literature and finally found Phosphorus to be the suitable remedy, which Dr. Clarke recommended in his book "A Clinical Repertory to the Dictionary of Materia Medica" for pains in the oesophagus. When the patient returned he was somewhat better but still in pain. I gave him two different potencies of Phosphorus to be taken alternately every two days. Phosphorus worked amazingly! The patient returned smiling after two days, free of oesophageal pain, thanks to Dr Clarke and Phosphorus.
