All the best for Christmas!

News

Merry Christmas!

It’s that time again! In a few days the family will gather around the festively laid table to enjoy the Christmas meal – a lot of love, effort and creativity have gone into this special moment. The scene with the beautifully decorated table is almost postcard-perfect.

And then great-aunt Concetta, wearing the most innocent expression, asks why the children absolutely must be homeschooled.

The drama unfolds.

Over the years Christmas has acquired a somewhat unfortunate reputation as an occasion for misunderstandings and family disputes. As a result, we find ourselves obliged to spend time with relatives who place great value on their own opinions and whom we might not personally share. Or we swallow our reactions to Aunt Concetta’s and Uncle Bruno’s well-meaning “suggestions” about the right way to live.

Staphisagria is an excellent remedy for suppressed feelings and everything you have to “swallow down” in terms of ideas and wishes. So should we bake some Staphisagria into the Christmas roast? Or perhaps sprinkle a little over the green bean casserole?

I admit I have a good laugh at that image while writing. But no, I certainly do not recommend that! Homeopathy is medicine. We never use it “just like that”. We only resort to these remedies when a disorder is present – just like with any medicine.

Besides, it’s an ethical question: we must not force our unsuspecting guests to take homeopathic remedies. We only give others homeopathy when we know their complaints inside out or have carried out a thorough case-taking!

But if Uncle Bruno wants to know why you decided long ago not to have a television, even though it would seem obvious to own one, simply gaze longingly at the wonderful green beans and don’t suppress your smile.

My dear readers, this whole scenario is meant with a wink!

The matter of pathology

As long as Christmas does not trigger a true trauma and lead to symptoms of a real illness – such as intense emotional arousal, trembling and sleeplessness – we should rely on our more traditional coping mechanisms.

Many people are too hasty and say: “I’ll just take this remedy in case I get upset.” No, homeopathy should not be used like that.

But Staphisagria is a wonderful remedy once there is an indication for it, for example in cases of:

  • being fired. You are dismissed and cannot tell your boss what you think
  • a public humiliation. You feel made a laughing stock
  • abuse by a spouse
  • sexual abuse of children (especially when the child, in its innocence, believes it is to blame for the abuse)
  • longstanding suffering. A person repeatedly suffers under a particular situation or perpetrator, which gives rise to a very, very deep sense of shame

Staphisagria 200 can be an excellent remedy when the person affected is unable to defend themselves and stand up for their opinion; when they must hold back emotions and suppress their own feelings; or when their nervous system has taken a heavy blow. It is usually taken every third day until a marked improvement occurs. Further information on dosing and potency of the remedy can be found here.

Bullying at schoolThe new pupil's home pharmacy Rosina Sonnenschmidt

An example: a few years ago parents came to my practice with their teenage daughter. She had come home from school in tears but could not explain what had happened. Ultimately we discovered that her teacher had been relentlessly scolding her every day and she suppressed her feelings because she was very ashamed of it. In fact, Staphisagria 200 helped her wonderfully to recover from the trauma.

That’s what I wanted to say. Even if you have to suppress your feelings at the Christmas dinner, it cannot yet be called pathological. That’s just family. Better take another helping of the Christmas roast and pass the (sweet) potatoes along.

Homeopathic gift ideas

But here’s a fantastic idea for Christmas! We could introduce the family properly to homeopathy. The whole feast – gravy, spices, ultra-pasteurised cream – is a heavy burden on the gut. So why not a small homeopathic gift that each guest can take home with their nicely wrapped leftovers?

Do you remember my blog post on the Schuessler salts titled David vs Goliath? In it I discussed how my father was able to stop his antacids thanks to Natrium phosphoricum 6. The main action of Nat phos is the breakdown of lactic acid; you could therefore describe it as an exemplary antacid.

So why not pop a small bottle of Nat phos 6 into the Tupperware containers and plastic bags that each guest takes home? Tie a pretty bow around it! Make it festive! (You can also print my article David vs Goliath and include it for better learning.)

I LOVE this idea! It’s the best way to spread the good news about homeopathy!

Dear readers – my family, my team and I wish you a wonderful Christmas! Indeed, I am very grateful that you support our grassroots movement for homeopathy.

And don’t worry, I’m sure your festive meal – and your whole Christmas – will be a great success!

Warmest regards,

Yours
