A SPIRITUAL COMPANION FOR YOGA PRACTICE

The YAMAS AND NIYAMAS are the first two pillars of the eightfold path of the Yoga Sutras and the foundation of yogic philosophy. Yoga goes far beyond the performance of physical exercises and should be understood as a way of life in which one becomes increasingly aware not only of one's body but also of one's thoughts and actions.

The YAMAS AND NIYAMAS, often regarded as the "ten commandments" of yoga, serve as guidelines intended to enable a more self-determined life. The Yamas encompass non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation and humility, while the Niyamas are concerned with purity, contentment, self-discipline, self-study and devotion. DEBORAH ADELE has compiled this guide as a practical manual, laced with engaging anecdotes from her own life experiences. A self-reflection section at the end of each chapter can also be used by teachers for group work. This book packs concentrated philosophical wisdom into an accessible format and has for many years been one of the best-selling yoga books in the USA. A spiritual inspiration for personal development – not only for yoga practitioners.

“One can regard the Yamas & Niyamas as guidelines, principles, ethical disciplines, behavioural rules, or even as commandments and restrictions. In my view they are jewels – the gems of wisdom that show us the way to a good, joyful life.” – Deborah Adele

DEBORAH ADELE studied theology and religious studies and is a certified teacher of Kundalini and Hatha yoga, yoga therapy and meditation.

A must-read for all age groups
Why yoga was forbidden in dictatorships and why some church representatives spoke (or still speak) of the devil's work in this context becomes clear in this book at the latest. A meta-level ethic that has been described and practised for centuries - suitable for capitalists, communists, politicians, teachers and students, for everyone - is described very clearly and humanely in this book.it would be nice and necessary too....
