A big step in the right direction, this book exposes many taboo subjects. It belongs in EVERY midwifery school and in EVERY gynaecological practice and everyone should have read it before going into the delivery room. This book sheds light on all facets, topics and problems of this sad and painful subject. The title alone "open at the bottom" should be a wake-up call for many. For the defenders of natural birth, a "view from all sides" only ever means emphasising the risks of caesarean sections. It doesn't suit them when the advantages are listed. The book does this too, much to the chagrin of many opponents of caesarean sections. Many women would be saved from this terrible damage if a caesarean section was performed in time. It makes me very thoughtful because more and more birth centres are opening and the trend is towards more and more home births. The resulting problems and birth injuries are well known to the profession of midwifery, but it is still focussed on and a cloak of silence is kept over it. Unfortunately, many people are not aware of the suffering of so many women during and after birth. You really have to ask yourself the question, why have there been so many pelvic floor centres in recent years? That is why I am so grateful to Dr Lenzen-Schulte for promoting this topic and providing honest and very informative education to protect other women from such damage. Solutions are also shown, help is offered and the legal steps are also put on the table. In my opinion, there should be a lot more complaints and legal action taken, then midwives and obstetricians would pay more attention and not focus on vaginal birth at all costs. Congratulations and courage for the thorough research and the very good presentation of the problems that damaged women have to struggle with after traumatic vaginal births.
