Einmal ADHS, immer ADHS?

Important book for the treatment of attention deficit disorder
What is special about this book? Dr Maté suggests that ADHD is not a disease in the strict sense. Rather, trauma survivors did not develop their nervous system and brain sufficiently as a child because of problems with early attachment. A child's brain needs an attentive counterpart in order to mature. Anyone who was unable to experience what a secure connection is as a small child is at greater risk of having problems focussing their attention later on. This is because the genetic potential for optimal brain development can only be fully exploited under favourable conditions. In this important basic book, Maté describes how our bodies and brains develop in relation to our environment. This is in line with current research on attachment theory and brain development and should be confirmed by anyone familiar with neurology. He sees ADHD as a lack of healthy, loving attunement between the still young child and the child's environment. This does not necessarily mean that the mother or father were not loving. Damage can also occur if, for example, a serious accident occurs or a child has to spend a long time in hospital or does not feel understood because the parents have a different temperament. What is so helpful about this book is that it brings together so many threads and strands of thought, so much different research and turns it into a wonderfully helpful gem. Towards the end of the book, you realise how you can end your suffering. It is important to have a knowledgeable counsellor, e.g. a psychotherapist. At the end, he also clearly states that he is not against ADHD medication. Medication is not the only help, but it is often the last resort. An elegantly written book, because Gabor Maté is simply a great writer! This book has already broadened and fundamentally changed the understanding of ADHD in America and will also find many friends in Germany. In contrast to other books of this kind, after reading this book you feel supported and not devastated. I find the book extremely helpful and comforting and can therefore recommend it 100%. This book could help many people.

Change of perspective
Dr Maté, whose thinking was greatly inspired by the biomedical scientist and hormone researcher Hans Selye and the theologian and philosopher Prof Dr Ivan Illich, offers many new ideas and food for thought on the development and healing of AD(H)S - in children, adolescents and adults alike. The book should not only be of benefit to those affected and their families, but also to all those who deal with the subject professionally. The process of becoming whole plays a decisive role in Maté's interpretation of the symptoms and possible healing steps. A very important book! Just like all of Maté's other books...

Good book on ADHD
The author has a very interesting approach to this topic, I think it's good that he doesn't judge and writes a lot about himself because he is also affected. Sometimes it reads a little sluggishly. I can only read a few pages at a time, have to let it sink in. Nevertheless, it is enriching.

Restlessness in the head Dr Gabor Mate
The delivery was made at short notice! In fact, I have only read a third of the book "Unruhe im Kopf", but I am already "very enthusiastic" about the content! Therefore a clear recommendation for the publisher and the book!

very helpful
This book goes to the heart of the matter and shows what we lack in our interpersonal relationships and what we have to do to change this... specifically regarding ADHD, but also in general.

Very well written
I am thrilled! I bought the book because a friend has ADHD and I wanted to understand the subject better. The book reads very well. It contains information that everyone who wants or has children should know! It looks at ADHD from the causal side, beyond the genetic disposition, and always with reference to study results. I've read half of it so far. The book has already enriched my view of my own life, even though I don't have ADHD. Highly recommended!
