Evidence for Homeopathy
Since the British medical journal The Lancet declared homeopathy dead in 2005, the media portrayal of homeopathy has been shaped by increasingly one-sided reporting and commentary. There is a broad consensus that the efficacy of homeopathic remedies has not been demonstrated and that any treatment successes must necessarily be attributed to the placebo effect. Ten years after the publication of the first issue of SPEKTRUM DER HOMÖOPATHIE, we therefore take stock of the evidence for homeopathy.
The articles by our authors from research and practice are intended to represent different degrees of evidence, from randomised placebo-controlled double-blind trials to practice-oriented observational studies and well-documented case reports of serious pathologies. At the same time, we are also interested in the poor quality of high-profile meta-analyses that purport to demonstrate the lack of efficacy of homeopathy and are repeatedly cited by sceptics and opponents of homeopathy. With the contributions in this anniversary issue we aim to provide our readers with data, facts and arguments to strengthen the position of homeopathy in the public debate.
