Mosses and Ferns
The wonderful world of plants has in recent years been systematically explored for our Materia Medica. Jan Scholten and Michal Yakir focused entirely on the flowering plants, while Rajan Sankaran additionally considered the conifers. The systematics, with typical characteristics and themes of individual orders and families, enable precise prescribing even of little‑known plant remedies.
Primitive land plants such as mosses and ferns have so far largely escaped homeopathic attention — perhaps as a consequence of a successful survival strategy. Many of these over 400 million‑year‑old plants have survived to the present only by becoming extremely adapted and ever more inconspicuous. This applies especially to the once mighty clubmoss and the horsetail, the two main representatives of primitive plants in the Materia Medica. They give us a homeopathic insight into the world of ferns, from which, together with new provings and clinical cases in this issue, the themes of the pteridophytes are to be developed. Jan Scholten opened the door to the realm of mosses in 2017 with his "Sense Provings" of more than 30 different species. We intend to deepen this first impression with the help of case examples.
Following Jan Scholten's foundational work on mosses as a new group of homeopathic remedies, this issue of Spektrum provides a deepening of the subject that incorporates all the latest experiences from the homeopathic world and, above all, confirms and expands the remedy pictures through practice as an indicator of their correctness.
