The editor writes:
To date, the question of whether homeopathy is scientific has mostly been approached in an unscientific manner. Much of the discussion over the past 25 years has failed on both sides to meet the standards required of a scientific debate. Blatant ignorance of the methods and principles of the opposing camp still features on the agenda, as do mutual disparagement and invective.
But even the positions put forward in a factual manner fail to convince. Although each of the approaches discussed sometimes brings very good arguments to bear, none can adequately explain whether or why homeopathy is scientific or not.
In his new book Ähnlichkeiten der Medizin, Matthias Wischner has set himself the ambitious task of working through the debate about the scientific status of homeopathy and of examining the arguments used by the various sides with regard to their foundations in the philosophy of science.
In a second step he then poses the question of the scientific status of homeopathy again and reaches surprising and exciting conclusions.
