Wonderful Indian spice

You really have to have it if you want to cook Ayurvedic food. The secret of Indian Ayurvedic cuisine lies in the fact that the valuable spices are not "thrown in" after the vegetables, pulses or potatoes etc. stewing in the pot or pan, as in German cuisine. No, here it's the other way round and this leads to an incredibly intense flavour - and the whole house smells wonderful! - The spices, such as garam masala, must be roasted carefully and with the utmost care in ghee! If you want to familiarise yourself with Ayurvedic cooking, which is basically very simple but extremely wholesome, I recommend the 2 books by the Sablok family. No. 1 is also available from this publisher, No. 2 unfortunately no longer seems to be available (I got it a few years ago). The only drawback of these books is that the recipes are usually for 4 or more people, but you can easily reduce this if you only want to cook for 1-2 people. Another drawback is that the book recommends using a pressure cooker, which I personally strongly advise against. Nevertheless, a highly recommended book whose contents and wisdom go far beyond "mere" cooking.

Definitely not recommended

By far the worst garam masala I have ever tasted. Instead of the intense aromas of coriander, cumin, bay leaf and other typical flavourings of this widespread and highly variable spice mixture, the main ingredient is pepper. Pepper of all things. The result is minimal flavour, just hot. Whoever put this mixture together should try again through the infinite worlds of good garam masala mixtures. This one is unsuitable as a garam masala and can at best be used as a pepper substitute

I was recommended a jar of this spice and now I use it several times a week. I had to buy more immediately, I think the spice goes well with every meal, it is not at all overpowering in small quantities but makes the flavour very interesting and I just stir it in everywhere! Delicious!
