Produktinformationen

A great enrichment
I had already read "When the body says no" and was impressed. I find In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts even more impressive, especially Dr Maté's description of his own addictions - music buying addiction and workaholism. I have actually seen such non-substance-related addictions in many different ways. They may not be quite as destructive as substance addictions, but they are still addictions with destructive potential. I have seen many a marriage break up because of one partner's workaholism. I recommend this book to all senior high school or secondary school students. It covers pretty much everything you need to know about drugs and addiction - much more than is taught at school and also much, much, much more differentiated and competent. A clear recommendation - more than worth reading - worth internalising.

Insightful perspective on addictive behaviour
Whether it's about the junkie on the hunt for the next fix or the workaholic - in this book, Dr Gabor Maté sheds light on the factors that lead to addictive behaviour in a human, empathetic and scientifically sound way, based on a great deal of experience, why our society is predestined for addictive behaviour in all possible facets and why it is particularly important for children to have adult and reliable caregivers and role models. The fact that this book is finally being published in German is a blessing. As addiction is such a widespread phenomenon and there are many misconceptions about its causes, this book can provide enormous inspiration not only to those affected and their families, but also to all professionals working in the field of addiction.
