The Raunächte begin on 25 December and end on 6 January, the significant Perchta Day. The 13th night brings another turn; the wheel keeps turning. It is a time of the Otherworld and of crossing boundaries.
By lighting candles and burning incense and herbs we receive protection and the opportunity to open the doors to the Otherworld, to communicate with it and to establish a connection. This period is characterised by gratitude, reflection, letting go, farewells, divination, visualising and welcoming the new.
Plants used include, among others, mistletoe, spruce, elder, mugwort, sage and juniper.
Application
Place in a draught-free location, use a level coaster and supervise the burning of your candle. Ensure the wick is trimmed if necessary and that the drip tray is clean (!).
The candles burn down with a delicate lattice pattern - this is intentional.
Remove the band before lighting and follow the instructions printed on it carefully.
After several hours of burning, melting parts of the rim can cause the drip tray to overflow. To prevent this, we recommend extinguishing the candle and allowing it to cool beforehand, or removing the outer rim.
