Colloidal gold is required and produced only in low concentrations. Consequently the solution remains almost colourless and thus differs from the often offered reddish-coloured solutions.
As the release of gold from the electrodes is very difficult to determine in this range, the stated concentration can only be an approximate value.
Colouring depends, among other things, on concentration and particle size! Higher concentration/larger particles = stronger colouring. The differences in particle size that lead to discolouration are usually very small, so slight reddish colouring should not be taken as an indication of a loss of quality.
Also note the chemical production process, where residual compounds can also cause colouring.
