Amalaki syn. Amla - Phyllantus emblica - is a very attractive, medium-sized, deciduous tree with pinnate leaves, pale green flowers and round, pale green to yellow fruits. In Ayurvedic nutrition the fruits are used. The powder of the dried fruits, finely and gently milled in our production (below 40°C), comes from our Indian and Sri Lankan Fair Trade and organic projects.

According to Ayurveda, this product corresponds on the level of the harmonious balance of the doshas* through the balance of the six tastes. It provides the tastes sour, sweet, bitter, astringent and pungent.
*Doshas are Ayurvedic principles that have no equivalent in modern science.

I would not have thought that Amalaki would work so well. I read on the internet that it is good for the eyes if you mix it with ghee. Now I take it as it says on the packet plus two teaspoons of ghee. I am convinced that Amalaki alone is beneficial but I will try it with the addition and I am curious.

Noticeable effect

I bought it for my gums. After a molar tooth had to be removed because of an inflammation, I take the Amalaki powder twice a day. Once in the morning in yoghurt, so you can't taste it. And once in the afternoon with hot water, leave to infuse and drink warm. The flavour takes some getting used to. But my grandad always said that what doesn't taste good helps. I think the vitamin C helps me.
