The author develops her central conception here, that of the "vital disorder". As disease is nothing more than a fundamental disturbance of this vital plane, the challenge is to understand and perceive the coherent pattern presented by the patient and to translate it symbolically. When we manage to decipher this pattern, we then perceive the logic of this vital disorder and at the same time find the sought response, the appropriate treatment.
