What is Spirulina platensis?
Spirulina platensis is a particular species of cyanobacteria. They are among the oldest life forms on Earth. The Latin name Spirulina describes their twisted, coiled filamentous shape. Although Spirulina is a blue-green bacterium, it is commonly classified among microalgae and freshwater algae.
The green-blue colour of Spirulina comes from the plant pigments used in photosynthesis, that is, the process plants use to produce energy. This allows the so-called Spirulina algae, like green plants, to produce energy and oxygen in the presence of light.
How is Spirulina powder used?
Organic Spirulina powder from Unimedica can be mixed into green smoothies, drinks, salads or other dishes. It is recommended to start with a lower dose (3 g) per day for the first two weeks. The daily intake can then be increased to 5 g.
Each pack of Organic Spirulina powder from Unimedica contains 500 g of spirulina powder from certified organic cultivation. This corresponds to slightly more than a three-month supply.

Organic Spirulina powder from Unimedica is, in accordance with legal requirements, free from artificial preservatives and other additives such as colourings, stabilisers, anti-caking agents such as magnesium stearate, non-GM, and is lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan.
