Lugol's solution according to the original formulation
Lugol's solution is an iodine solution. Iodine is both an essential trace element, primarily important for the normal function of the thyroid gland, and an antiseptic that has been used since the 19th century for wound cleansing and as a home remedy.
Lugol's solution is also used, for example, as a starch indicator and as a disinfectant. Iodine is sparingly soluble in water. Therefore potassium iodide is added to the solution to allow the iodine to dissolve more readily.
Lugol's solution from Unimedica is prepared according to the original 1835 formulation devised by the French physician Jean Guillaume Lugol. The quality of this iodine solution complies with the European Pharmacopoeia.
Pharmaceutical iodine solution
The Lugol's solution from Unimedica contains per 100 ml bottle of iodine–potassium iodide solution: 85% demineralised, pharmaceutically purified water, 10% potassium iodide (min. 99% pharmaceutical purity) and 5% iodine (min. 99.8% pharmaceutical purity). One drop of this iodine solution corresponds to a 6.5 mg dose of iodine.
Each dropper bottle of Lugol's solution from Unimedica contains 100 ml of iodine–potassium iodide solution.
Important information:
Causes serious eye irritation. If medical advice is required, have the packaging/label to hand. Keep out of the reach of children! Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. In case of contact with eyes: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes – remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
