The name taurine is derived from the Latin word "Taurus", meaning "bull" or "ox". Taurine was first isolated from ox bile. It is found particularly in the heart, blood, brain, eyes and muscles of our bodies. The functioning of these organs is important for our performance.
Taurine is an organic acid. It is produced naturally in the bodies of humans and animals during the breakdown of the amino acids methionine and cysteine — but only in amounts sufficient to maintain basic organ function. Taurine is classed as an amino acid but cannot be incorporated into proteins. Taurine is also obtained from the diet, although it is virtually absent from a vegan diet.
Unimedica taurine capsules are high-strength, providing 500 mg taurine per capsule. The plant-based capsules contain pure taurine. The capsules are manufactured in Germany.
