The name taurine is derived from the Latin word "Taurus", meaning "bull" or "ox". Taurine was first isolated from ox bile. It is primarily found in the heart, blood, brain, eyes and muscles of the body. The proper functioning of these organs is important for our performance.
Taurine is an organic acid. It is produced naturally in humans and animals during the breakdown of the amino acids methionine and cysteine, but only in amounts sufficient to ensure the basic functioning of the organs. Taurine is classified as an amino acid but cannot form protein building blocks. Taurine is also obtained from the diet, though virtually not at all on a vegan diet.
Taurine capsules from Unimedica are highly concentrated, containing 500 mg of taurine per capsule. The plant-based capsules contain pure taurine. The capsules are manufactured in Germany.
