Yttrium metals in paediatrics

Yttrium metals in paediatrics

A case report

Clementine suffers from recurrent tonsillitis and is often ill. It is currently December 2004 and Clementine is 10 years old. She is a sweet, pretty girl and at first glance looks like a Sepia patient. She has a long, narrow face, her hair pulled tightly back and she looks rather sad.

She has an incredibly pure voice and is a pupil at the conservatoire. She is talented and usually sings solo parts, not in the choir. Her problem is that she often gets throat infections and then loses her voice. She is so often ill that she has not yet been able to take part in any performances.

Her mother accompanies her to the initial consultation. The father works in Paris and the family is not well off. The girl receives social benefits, a clear signal that the family's financial means are very modest.

She tells me that she would love to sing but is afraid she is not good enough. „Others are so much better than me.” She prefers to sing at home to a music CD and does not like being on stage. She loves singing and was only recently 'discovered'. She is not sure, however, whether she could stand in front of an audience as a singer. She used to enjoy dancing too.

Kindertypen-Frans-Kusse.03625.jpgThe throat symptoms are worse in cold and damp conditions.

She loves cheese and olives and has an aversion to courgettes.

Her mother tells me that the father is very strict, especially with Clementine. Only recently he said to her: „There are many singers out there who are just as good as you.” The remark did not strengthen the girl's self-confidence.

I prescribed Yttrium oxydatum 1M, because Yttrium metallicum was not available.

Follow-up

Four months later, in May 2005, she returned. Since the administration of the remedy she has had no tonsillitis and no loss of voice. Since her last visit she has become more self-confident and can now sing solos.

Comment

At first I thought of Sepia, then Calcarea and Baryta carbonica. The main themes were her physical, charming presence, the tonsillitis and the strict father who is almost never there.

The theme of a gifted child and a talented singer points to the silver series. This was reinforced by the fact that she wishes to succeed in her artistic field.

Stage 3 is indicated, because the girl still has to find her way and had little self-confidence.
