Do you remember my blog post about motion sickness? Today I want to address dizziness and tinnitus, which have much in common with motion sickness. As chronic conditions, however, these complaints can have a much greater impact on health. Constant booming in the earWhile travel sickness is triggered by motion, dizziness and ear noises often occur as accompanying symptoms of nausea, making matters doubly unfortunate. Some people describe the accompanying state as feeling as if they are in a deafeningly loud factory, or they speak of a state of intoxication or a particularly bad bout of vertigo. There are many different causes of dizziness and persistent tinnitus: infections, fever, seemingly unrelated illnesses, movements, inner ear disorders, loud noises (acoustic trauma), eye problems and even stress. John's tinnitus
Take John, for example. John is in his mid-sixties and has suffered from tinnitus for eight years. The ear noises are present every day and are sometimes accompanied by dizziness. During particularly severe episodes he cannot go to the office as usual, but spends the whole day sitting in his armchair. John had learned self-treatment with homeopathy in one of my courses and knew that he had to look for the causes of his complaints. He thought about what had happened in his life eight years ago. What could have been the trigger? He thought for a long time and eventually consulted his wife. (I generally recommend my students draw a timeline of their complaints.) A surgery with consequencesAt that point John realised that the balance disturbances and the tinnitus had started shortly after his gallbladder operation. For homeopathic treatment it can be very important to identify the trigger of the current complaints. This can help in finding the remedy. Indeed, in this case Arnica for the consequences of trauma, Acidum phosphoricum for possible toxic after-effects of anaesthetics and Nux vomica for side-effects of the drugs given during or after the procedure could be considered. If it is not possible to get to the bottom of the cause, many questions can remain unanswered. Nevertheless, homeopathy has proven effective in treating these complaints, even independently of the actual cause. Sometimes different strategies must be tried to find the right stimulus that can resolve the problem. There is no need to worry, because homeopathy works gently. A wrongly chosen remedy will not produce unwanted side effects, provided one acts cautiously. The Banerji protocol for tinnitus
