The Emergency Series: I'm feeling sick

Recently my owner was talking about her next post in the emergency series. It's about food poisoning.

At the mere thought of it I'd like to run outside and chew a bit of grass. Do you feel the same? Oh, right, I forgot that you humans don't eat grass, do you?

OK, just trust me — you shouldn't judge too quickly.

Anyway, it reminded me of my mum, Dolly. Before I was born she had a terrible bout of food poisoning. Apparently she had mistaken the neighbours' dustbin for a gourmet restaurant.

Yuck!

After that she was soooo sick. She vomited all over the house and only wanted to get some fresh air.

Then came the diarrhoea. Diarrhoea and vomiting at the same time! She was, of course, completely dehydrated and very thirsty. She dragged herself to her water bowl but collapsed from exhaustion after just a few sips. Dolly was very poorly. (I still don't understand why she had to empty the dustbin in the first place!)

Of course my owner devotedly looked after her and treated her homoeopathically (she does that for everyone). She gave Dolly Arsenicum album C30 until she was back to her old self.

It really worked — after all, I wouldn't even have been born otherwise! What on earth would my family do without me?

Well, anyway. I've found out that the same thing can happen to you humans if you eat something spoiled. (Don't tell me you're rummaging through your neighbours' bins too. I expect better of you!)

Homoeopathie-fuer-Notfaelle-und-akute-Erkrankungen-Alok-Pareek-R-S-Pareek.13376.jpgYou will probably know straight away that you have food poisoning if you are vomiting so badly and have relentless diarrhoea. That's really not funny! When the humans in my family are that ill they always say, "My stomach's turning!" (At least they don't lose their sense of humour in those situations!)

You may also get that burning in the stomach, feel weak and chilly and crave small sips of water. Like Dolly. My owner says that usually anxiety and restlessness come with it too. Lots of fear.

And you know what? People can take Arsenicum album C30 too! (Just like us dogs — until they feel better.)

In fact my owner says that with suspected food poisoning she always thinks of Arsenicum first, even though it may not actually be true food poisoning. The remedy helps whenever these symptoms occur, whatever the cause.

So it's a good idea to have Arsenicum album C30 in your medicine cabinet. You never know when you might eat something that will turn your stomach. And the trip to the chemist is a long way if you can't even make it to the toilet in time!

Please don't look at me like that… I'm not going to fetch it for you!
