To be honest: I love to draw. But the kind of drawing I want to write about here and recommend to you is not about artistic self‑expression; it is about learning. A drawing can tell us a great deal.
It’s time for you to draw a timeline for everyone in your family who suffers from a chronic illness.
Why should you make time for this in particular?
Because without this perspective it is almost impossible to draw intelligent conclusions about why someone suffers from a particular disease or particular complaints.
But before we begin, I want to introduce you to an amazingly illuminating law of nature about human health.
Organon of the Healing Art
It comes from the book Organon of the Healing Art by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, the father and founder of homeopathy.
Paragraph 202
“If the physician of the old school, thinking thereby to cure the whole disease, destroys the local symptom by external means, nature replaces it by awakening the internal malady and the remaining symptoms which had previously accompanied the local evil but were still dormant, that is, by increasing the internal disease—in which case one then incorrectly says that the local evil has been driven back into the body or onto the nerves by the external medicines.”
* By “the old school” is meant allopathic or conventional medicine.
What Dr Hahnemann is saying is that every time there is an unknown predisposition or a latent disease in the family history—a sleeping giant—this can be awakened under certain circumstances to cause a disease with greater suffering, as soon as the symptoms of a less severe illness are artificially suppressed.
And the way this happens is so simple, so fundamental, that it runs counter to modern patterns of thought and, for that reason, escapes our notice.
What Dr Hahnemann postulated can be reduced to the following:
Avoid suppressive medicines and treatments. They drive forward a more serious disease that lurks in the background.
Sore throats and antibiotics
If, for example, you immediately take an antibiotic for a sore throat, you will probably experience more frequent and more severe infections in future.
(All readers who have noticed recurrent ear infections in their children after taking antibiotics may raise a hand here.)
If there is a family history of skin conditions and an antibiotic is given, the child will likely develop another throat infection PLUS a skin condition, such as eczema. Remember: eczema is chronic. That means years of suffering.
This happens because the sleeping giant—the latent or “internal disease”—has been awakened.
If not the first time, then perhaps the second or third time, but it is inevitable, for it is a law of nature. You cannot play with natural laws by using artificial measures to remove the external expression of a disease.
Suppression by surgical procedures
Then there are surgical interventions.
If the tonsils are surgically removed, the doctor will then declare: “See, no more sore throats.”
But now the child becomes more susceptible to colds, bronchitis, asthma or other lung diseases; these sometimes occur months, sometimes years, even decades later.
As the great paediatrician Dr Mendelsohn once said: “The only mistake God made with the tonsils was placing them too close to the surgeon’s knife.”
Enlarged tonsils are lymphatic tissue meant to protect us from infections; they therefore serve an important purpose.
Like a sentry, they protect vital organs (the lungs) from contamination. When the tonsils are inflamed, they should be treated appropriately and correctly. But certainly not simply cut out.
So how should tonsils and streptococci be treated correctly?
Homeopathy for sore throats
Here are the best homeopathic remedies for streptococci and inflamed tonsils:
- Hepar sulphuris calcareum C200, twice daily until symptoms improve; or as an alternative, if the person has a bad taste in the mouth or mouth ulcers and saliva flows profusely ...
- Mercurius cyanatus 200, twice daily. If the pain is severe, you can additionally give Belladonna 6 or 3. More information on dosing and potency is available here.
Back to the timeline
Below you can see a timeline I drew for a child whose mother is one of my students.
The exact number of vaccinations is not shown. In reality there were at least ten within a few weeks after birth, but the depiction of a needle is a good pictorial representation indicating the many injections.

Take a moment and look at everything that happened in this child’s life. One medication follows another, then one illness after another appears. It reads like a book.
Drawing a timeline - Step #1:
Draw a long, detailed line with all events from birth and perhaps even before, if something important happened prior to birth.
My tip: Draw in pencil, because you will erase many times while preparing the timeline and noting every “hit” for the system.
This includes illnesses and the corresponding allopathic medicines prescribed for treatment. Please also consider medical examinations, surgical procedures, vaccinations, x‑rays, MRIs, endoscopies, mammograms, dental appointments with fillings or composite coverings and anaesthetics.
Also take into account important emotional events such as the loss of a loved one, painful humiliations and life‑changing events.
When you have finished your drawing, look at what life has brought you and how many medicines and interventions you have undergone.
There will be one or two surprises.
Most people tell me they do not approve of or take medications, but once they have produced a timeline they realise there are actually many exceptions. And these span a lifetime.
Often they are shocked by the many medicines and treatments they or their child have been subjected to.
But do not worry about that. This is not about blame. It is about putting events back into perspective, and the timeline is the first step.
Timeline - Step #2:
Now go online and search for every medicine you have taken and write down their side effects. You can find the information on the medicine manufacturer's website.
I really mean READ. It may take a while to reach page 24, but you will probably find all the facts you need to discover the cause of your symptoms.
Work through all the symptoms you are currently suffering from. Also mark the symptoms you have experienced over the years. Attach your notes as an appendix to your timeline.
Most people mistakenly believe that side effects disappear within a few days of stopping a medicine. That is not true.
I work with people who have reacted to a medicine, even to those that are not considered addictive, and who were never the same again after taking the medicine, not even decades later.
Moreover, according to Dr Hahnemann, side effects are not the real problem. The most important point is that the disease is redirected to a deeper, more serious pathology—namely the latent, internal disease that is just waiting to be brought to the surface by the removal of purely external symptoms.
Why is your timeline so valuable?
This little exercise is worth the effort because it takes us from the general question “Why am I so ill?” to “Now I know why I am unwell.”
This process will hopefully make clear how important it is to think twice when medicines are offered to us.
For this reason, dear readers, it is important and imperative that all families know how to treat minor illnesses so that medicines can be avoided for simple headaches, sore throats, ear infections, chest infections, urinary tract infections, injuries, acne, etc.
I spend countless hours writing blogs and articles, giving interviews on radio and television, speaking at conferences and recording podcasts to convey the message that we must learn to treat ourselves.
I could also cite financial, political and moral reasons, but the most convincing reason reveals itself as soon as you discover how important it is to become the healer of your family.
Get your life in line. Take up your pencil and rummage through your memory. Afterwards you can exchange your medicines for homeopathic remedies and the wise thinking behind them.
Homeopathy helps – spread the word!
Warmly,
Yours
