The patient was born in 1968 and presented in 2002 for an initial consultation with multiple complaints: headaches, back pain, a feeling of fullness in the abdomen and white discolouration of the nails. She is a very gentle woman and is always in a hurry. To arrange the appointment she phoned me several times while on the move. She is shy and suffers from stage fright. In conversation she only admits to suffering from a fear of heights, but she is also worried about the future and suffers from anticipatory tension. She reacts sensitively to her surroundings. She senses when others are angry or malicious or have negative thoughts. She likes to theorise, which can be traced back to her interest in psychology, healthcare and thinking in general.
She suffers from a feeling of fullness in the abdomen. Mostly after she has eaten sweets. After sexual intercourse she has pain in the lower abdomen and in the bladder. Urination relieves the pain and the feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen. In September 2004 she experienced dizziness with a change in the weather and left-sided, pulsating headaches. She had the sensation that her eye was being pushed out of the eye socket. This pain begins slowly and disappears slowly. She had neck pain that did not respond to light touch, but was improved by firm pressure.
Two years before the initial consultation she was divorced by her husband. Her ex-husband had not been very considerate towards her. When her husband’s brother visited from Germany, the two of them went together to a brothel. She had been sexually harassed by her father-in-law. She had endured everything in silence. She had tried to find a new relationship, which did not succeed. She felt guilty, was depressed and tearful.
She worked as a nurse in a gynaecological practice; the work burdened her greatly. She is introverted and is interested in yoga, meditation, contemplation and healthy nutrition. She likes being independent and wants to have everything under control. When she was married she gave up her job as a nurse and opened a beauty salon.
She is in search of truth and says that she has found it in her new partner. She describes him as the best thinker in town and as spiritually highly developed. She is very satisfied with her new partner and her beauty salon. She is always in a hurry, must always be in control and is very tense. When she goes to a party with her friends she always keeps an eye on the time. When she talks about her new life she is very
anxious to present it positively and attractively.
Analysis
I first gave her Argentum nitricum D200. The remedy covered almost all the complaints; one might almost describe the patient as a ‘constitutional’ Argentum nitricum patient. When studying the materia medica everything simply fits. Over a period of two years she received four doses of it. In September 2004 her headaches recurred during a change in the weather.

Follow up
After one dose of Argentum nitricum nothing happened. Also after one dose of the complementary Gelsemium there was no change. That led me onto the trail of a lanthanide from the same group as Argentum: Terbium. Terbium nitricum C200 from Remedia worked very well. The patient was well until April 2005. Terbium nitricum C200 was repeated in April and August 2005 (single doses). She is free of complaints.
Comment:
After Argentum nitricum and Gelsemium had failed, I initially had no idea what to give her. Improvement from firm pressure and lack of improvement with light touch made me think of China at first. However, it was not a case from the malaria miasm. The patient’s main complaint is her fear of loss of control; she is always vigilant. That is a feature from column 11. Thinking, urge for freedom, autonomy, introversion, spirituality, meditation and sensitivity etc. point to the lanthanides. Tension, enthusiasm and aversion to heavy meals are covered by Nitrogenium.
