I have already written about Nux vomica until I'm sick of it (and yes, that pun is deliberate).
There is, however, a particular application of Nux vomica that I am sure I have not discussed in sufficient detail: digestive problems that occur as a result of a surgical procedure. By "surgical procedure" I also mean a stay in hospital here. The two are effectively the same.
Digestive disorders after a caesarean section
Take little Joseph as an example. Before his birth everyone was eagerly expecting him. The nursery had been lovingly decorated, papered in blues and greens with little animals on the wall. The whole family was excited.
When the time came labour was induced and Joseph's mother was given an epidural for the contraction pains. Neither helped and so general anaesthesia, a caesarean and the usual course of antibiotics followed.
Hm.
(A side note here – if the doctor had known how to use Caulophyllum 200 to assist a birth, the delivery would very likely have gone rather differently. Unfortunately that was not the case.)
And the baby wasn't even born yet! Unborn babies are in close symbiosis with their mothers and little Joseph had therefore already been exposed to many medications before his birth.
And then it's no wonder he developed colic.
Joseph had wind, he vomited his milk and couldn't sleep. It was a dreadful state. The nursery was anything but a place of loving care – it was more like a war zone.
The whole family was exhausted. The baby was unwell and the older siblings sulked because no one could properly look after them. The mother cried a lot and the father tried to help but had to watch as the world around him collapsed like a house of cards.
Homeopathic remedies for intestinal colic
There are many homeopathic remedies that help with intestinal colic. For example, Chamomilla, Nat phos, Cuprum and Colocynthis (you will surely remember I wrote about these in my article The secret life of a baby with three-month colic).
For colic caused by the administration of drugs after surgical procedures, Nux vomica C200 is virtually unbeatable (other digestive complaints accompanied by irritability and discontent also respond well to it).
Perhaps a single dose will suffice. You may need to give the remedy more than once. But for digestive problems in which non‑natural, external influences play a role, I usually rely on Nux vomica C200, taken twice daily until a clear improvement occurs.
Nux vomica for mother and child
If the newborn needs Nux vomica after birth, the chances are good that the mother will also profit from a dose or two of Nux vomica. Although mother and child are now physically separated, the symbiotic relationship continues. If one responds positively to a homeopathic remedy, the other usually benefits as well.
In Joseph's case normality and with it the family peace returned after a few days of Nux vomica. Mother and son had both taken Nux vomica and now everyone could properly enjoy the new addition to the family. Even the funny little animals on the wallpaper seemed a little cheerier.
Can it really be that simple?
Yes, it can.
Nux vomica has a very special place in my heart because it was the first homeopathic remedy my homeopath prescribed to me over 30 years ago. Up until that point I had treated every little complaint with medication, whether constipation, anxiety, sleep disturbance, migraine, digestive problems, asthma or allergies. Before I discovered homeopathy I was young, naive and easily influenced.
My fondness for synthetic drugs had left its mark, but a dose of Nux vomica C200 worked wonders for me. My symptoms – some of which I had had for many years – improved immediately by 40–50%!
People have long intuitively known that physical and mental health are closely connected to the gut.
A Christmas story
Even when the ghosts visit old Ebenezer Scrooge in Dickens's A Christmas Carol, he argues that the mind has much to do with the digestion:
"Small things make them peevish. A little indisposition of the stomach makes them liars. A bit of bad beef, an old cheese. A too sharp spoonful of mustard, a raw potato. Your belly plays tricks, and you cannot trust your senses."
Good health begins in the gut!
So why don't we pay more attention to a healthy gut? That's a good question, because anxiety, depression, bloating, brain fog and weight problems all have something to do with digestion. Homeopathy can help here. Of course I cannot promise that your wallpaper will suddenly shine in new colours, but the prospects for a more relaxed family life are definitely rosy.
Become a hero for your family – I'm here to help.
Warmly,
Yours,
