The Orchidaceae prove to be an important medicinal plant family that warrants further investigation, showing beneficial effects in behavioural and developmental disorders, ADHD and autism.
The commonly used polychrests often do not have sufficient effect on the complex developmental and behavioural disorders seen in children today. Following a series of drug tests and initial clinical experience, it can be suggested that remedies from the botanical family Orchidaceae may play a particular role here. This is illustrated by the case of the successful treatment of an autistic child with Cypripedium pubescens.
