Spring tips
by Ms Christiane Maute®
Below we have compiled some recommendations from Ms Christiane Maute on the subject of spring for you:
This year the winter was very mild, so hardly any frost damage occurred to the plants. However, if frost is threatened, Ms Maute recommends a preventive treatment with Aconitum C 200, which is poured into the root zone; this prevents frost from penetrating the vascular system. This helps the plants enter summer less prone to disease (6–8 globules in 30 l of water).
For the effects of frost followed by sun exposure or sunburn on leaves, Belladonna C 200 is indicated. The plants then show brownish‑red foliage, which can occur in garden and houseplants (6–8 globules in 30 l of water).
Calendula C 30 (garden, greenhouse, houseplants) is the third 'ally' after frost damage and winter sun, when plants have developed cracks, for example on fruit trees. It is particularly effective for abrasions caused by pruning or thinning on shrubs and trees (6–8 globules in 30 L of water).
Calendula is a 'growth starter'; it promotes root formation and healthy growth, which is why it is unbeatable after pricking out, repotting or transplanting. Young plants are briefly dipped into a calendula bath before planting. Bare‑root roses are dipped overnight in a plastic bucket with calendula water in a frost‑free place before planting (10 globules in approx. 10–15 l of water). Seeds of tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, etc. can be soaked for a few hours before sowing in a dish of calendula water (6 globules in 1–2 l of water).
They're back now: the slugs. Overnight they finish off tender young lettuce or vegetable seedlings and many beloved plants in the flowerbed. A tried‑and‑tested remedy: Helix tosta D 6.
You pour Helix tosta over the young plants and the soil. You can also water around the vegetable garden or flower beds – this acts like an 'invisible' slug fence. After rain it should be reapplied after about 3–7 days.
Dosage Helix tosta D 6 – acts very quickly but does not last as long: 10 ml to 10 l of water (in liquid form), ½ teaspoon = approx. 80 globules in 10 l of water.
Silicea C 200 (garden, greenhouse, container plants, houseplants): A very good plant‑strengthening remedy for all plants, which should be watered in in early spring (early to late March). Often a single application per season is sufficient to strengthen the plants. Healthy plants show fewer diseases and pest pressures. Also for plants that are very weak due to unfavourable overwintering, 'ailing' and possibly even showing fungal infestation. Silicea C 200 should be used a maximum of 3 times per season; mid to late July is the last application, otherwise the plants become too lush going into winter.
Garden: 6–8 globules in 30 l of water. Houseplants: 4 globules in 1 l of water.
Solidago C 30: A very good remedy, already used by the ancient Germans for wound healing. In plants it heals root injuries after repotting and transplanting. Solidago C 30 brings a balance to the plant's water economy. It is used after periods of wet and cold. In over‑fertilised and 'salinised', previously conventionally treated soils it acts as a 'drainage remedy'. The soil can regenerate more quickly (6–8 globules in 30 L of water).
Important before each application of the homeopathic plant‑strengthening remedies: allow them to dissolve completely and stir well with a plastic or wooden spoon.

With the homeopathic preparations you can give plants a good start into spring. The aim is to strengthen them preventively so that diseases cannot take hold in the first place.
"It is an exciting journey that awakens genuine feelings of joy when cut roses plagued by extreme cold, which were almost considered lost, break into growth again after applying the 'Maute ABCs' and exceed every expectation. I can recommend the book to everyone; in this way we can do our part to hand the world on to future generations in a more sensible state!" Stephan Ludescher, Horticultural Engineer
