Time really does fly, doesn't it?
I can hardly believe that I wrote my first blog about surgical procedures in 2012. Although nearly five whole years have passed since then, the topic is just as relevant today as it was then, and the following information will certainly be helpful to you.
Over the years you have sent in many questions about it, and I would like to take a moment now to answer them. Of course I am not a doctor, I do not know you personally and therefore cannot address specific cases. However, I want to help clarify any misunderstandings and support you in consolidating your homeopathic knowledge. We have already discussed whether Arnica can be taken in preparation for an operation and afterwards as well. (There are even cosmetic surgeons who recommend that their patients take Arnica after the procedure).
At this point I would like to answer four more questions that I often encounter:
1. Which remedy is best taken after anaesthesia?
I have already written about Phosphorus and Nux vomica as remedies to alleviate the unpleasant side-effects of anaesthesia — such as headaches and nausea. I would also like to mention Camphora C200 – one dose on the day after the operation. It is a very effective remedy against the many after-effects of anaesthesia (and can also clear out any other medicines given before, during and after the procedure).
2. Is there a homeopathic remedy that can help with throat inflammation after intubation?
Intubation does not cause an ordinary throat inflammation, but an injury! Therefore homeopathic remedies that are traditionally given for injuries are used, in particular
Arnica C30, taken several times a day. Whenever the pain gets worse, it is time for another dose. The frequency of dosing depends on the individual circumstances and is guided by the pain and the symptoms present.
In addition, Ferrum phosphoricum C6 can be taken in the same way (alternating with Arnica 30). Ferr phos helps with inflammation of the soft tissues.
3. What if I have emergency surgery and cannot prepare for it homeopathically?
I always advise starting from where you are. In general, homeopathic preparation begins the day before the operation. Twenty-five years ago I myself had an unexpected surgical procedure and, of course, could not prepare at all the evening before. I simply took my homeopathic first-aid kit into hospital with me and swallowed the little pellets I needed there. One hour before the operation I quickly took Arnica. After the procedure my husband came into the recovery room and treated me homeopathically as soon as it was possible.
4. And what about the nervousness before the operation?
I didn't take it then, but if I had needed a remedy it would have been Gelsemium C6 or C30. It would have protected me against any possible fear or nervousness. But I hadn't thought of it; my brain was switched off — as it usually is in most emergency situations.
