Book review: Homeopathy for Gardening and Agriculture

News

in the Australian Homoeopathic Association – National Newsletter Edition 111

04671_rez.jpgThis attractively produced, 400-page hardback book is a pleasure to read. It consists of 15 self-contained chapters (a repertory is included at the end).
It is printed on very good-quality paper and is attractively and colourfully illustrated. Highlighting headings in various shades of green as a signposting device is an excellent idea.

This is a book for gardeners interested in biodynamic farming as well as for homeopaths. It begins with a thought-provoking section on agriculture and toxicity and the importance of farming that works with methods which include the universal consciousness that guides all life. It then explains, in simple terms, the basic principles of homeopathic philosophy and the application of homeopathic remedies. Some chapters deal with different farming methods, soil structure and plant structure. This is followed by a comprehensive discussion of the treatment of plant diseases that arise from imbalances in nutrient availability; companion planting and the use of homeopathic remedies are also discussed.

The second half of the book is devoted to "pests" and covers the use of homeopathic remedies against insects of all kinds and against the various bacterial, viral and fungal diseases that can affect our plants. Finally, various first-aid remedies and some polycrests are discussed that can be used when plants have been injured, as well as remedies for dealing with weeds.

1505_patricia_hatherly_100.jpgThe book has an extensive table of contents and is full of references, which makes it very user-friendly. The environmentally printed, up-to-date book could well revolutionise the agricultural landscape of the future. I recommend this work to both the professional and the hobby gardener who are open to using homeopathy.
