Alfons Geukens

Alfons Geukens was one of the great Belgian homeopaths who trained many of today's well-known homeopaths.

An obituary by Annette Sneevliet:

"On Tuesday the completely unexpected news came that my teacher Alfons Geukens has died.
This is a great loss for our homeopathic family, for all homeopaths worldwide.
Alfons was a driven expert who devoted all his energy to homeopathy until the last day.

His knowledge of the Repertory and Materia Medica was phenomenal and thereby he helped so many patients, and if success was not immediate, he would sink his teeth into the patient's problem until he had found a solution.
I was fortunate to be able to undertake homeopathic training at his centre in Hechtel, Belgium, from 1986 to 1990.
Alfons was the master, we were the pupils, and that is how we were trained. We treated the patients and learned under his supervision in practice how homeopathy was applied.
Alfons was someone who was always ready to support us and to stand by us in difficult situations with patients. I recall one particular occasion when he sat with me late into the night to accompany a child with a severe asthma attack. Or during the weekend duties when I did not know what to do with the suicidal woman. Or he would be helping with building work and then, in his casual clothes, sit down beside me and solve the problem for which I needed help.

He was a very hard-working person. When I arrived by car from Holland at the centre at 8:30 am, he had already been working in his practice for an hour. That became an everyday joke, and he would greet me with: "good afternoon"!

The kitchen was the heart of the centre in Hechtel for us. Cases were constantly discussed there. I still see him before me, quickly taking a cup of coffee and a cigarette, which just fitted into the time, and quickly sharing with us what he had just seen in his consulting room so that we could learn from it.

The years in Hechtel laid the foundation for my knowledge and my development in homeopathy. I am grateful to Alfons daily for all that he taught me, and with me many colleagues in Holland and elsewhere in the world.
His long-standing seminars in Wageningen, in which he brought so many homeopathic remedies to life for us using video case studies, enormously improved the level of homeopathic knowledge in Holland. He carried out the same work not only in Holland but in so many countries around the world.
Dear Alfons, I thank you for who you were and what you gave me. I wish you a good journey home.

Annette Sneevliet."
