A little Sulphur dog

News

The following case concerns a 3‑year‑old female West Highland White Terrier who had developed itching as early as nine weeks of age. She had been vaccinated shortly before and her skin on the head was slightly red and dry. At that time she was treated with Thuja C200.

Four weeks later the itching was still present. A bath worsened the symptoms and the dog tried to cool herself by lying on the floor tiles and on cool places. The skin now looked greasy and grey. At home she was very pushy and always wanted to be the pack leader. She likes milk, but generally does not drink much. This time she received a dose of Morgan pure C200 and the itching improved immediately.

Homoeopathie-fuer-Tiere-Francis-Hunter.14789.jpgFive months later she became increasingly lethargic and vomited at 8:00 am after a breakfast of chicken. The vomit was liquid. She was treated with Sulphur C200 and thereafter felt generally better.

Next, at 16 months of age she was presented because of her greasy coat. She loves to roll in smelly things and the coat had developed a yellowish tinge. Sometimes she vomits her food when she has been too greedy. In addition her paws itch at night. The little dog enjoys playing with other dogs and adores her owners' grandchildren. She does what she is told, but she is not anxious. She was given another dose of Sulphur C200 and responded well to the remedy.

A year later she was treated again for diarrhoea. She is normally fed high‑quality fresh meat, but her owners had been away and she had been looked after by a dog‑sitter. The stools were soft and mushy, but without mucus or blood. The dog refused to drink. At times she sat alone and looked lethargic. She licked her genital area and her coat had become yellow again. This time Pulsatilla might also have been considered, but she was given Sulphur again in an LM1 potency, to be taken twice daily. Once more she improved very quickly.

Then – three months later – she vomited again every day, always at 2:45 pm. It began during a car journey. She vomits a cloudy, yellowish, foamy fluid, after which she feels better. There is no food in the vomit. When the symptoms began she had again been with a dog‑sitter for a few days.

She is a great dog to examine, only a little nervous. There is an itchy rash in the genital area and between the toes. She was again treated with Sulphur C200 and was unremarkable again within a few hours.

In Synthesis under the rubric Stomach, vomiting, afternoons only ten remedies are listed and Sulphur is the only one printed in bold.

Three months later she vomited bile again and this time also had some blood and mucus in the stools. In addition she had diarrhoea with ineffectual straining. A blood test was performed and showed that the lipase was slightly elevated at 1125 IU/L. After a dose of Sulphur C200 she was well again within 24 hours.

Another three months later her lipase values were again slightly raised (824 IU/L) and she again had vomiting and diarrhoea with blood in the stools. She was then prescribed Sulphur LM3, to be taken twice daily for one month. She has been in excellent health ever since.
