A Buteo jamaicensis case

News

An eight-year-old boy, born July 1995.

He came in January 2003 with his mother. His complaints are stomach pains, headaches, numerous molluscum warts and an eczematous patch on the thigh.

He was born with a heart defect and has therefore undergone three operations. At three months he had the first procedure and at five months he contracted the RS virus. He had to spend six weeks in intensive care. At two years and three months he had the second operation, the third took place at four and a half years. He has to take blood-thinning medication.

(In November 1996 his father died of cancer within three months. Since then his mother has cared for him alone.)

Observation: He is a normally built, small boy with straight blond hair. There is slight pale puffiness under his pale blue eyes. He is very alert and communicative. He makes clear what he likes and dislikes. His vocabulary is extensive and he expresses himself imaginatively.

He loves games: ball games, chess, boules, etc. He likes playing with his toy trains. In the evenings he is tired but then becomes lively again.

He collects coins and caps.

He has nightmares about ghosts, crocodiles and witches. He is afraid of eerie-looking masks, axes and devils.

He likes to lip-sync and plays the drums. He has a vivid imagination and later would like to learn a trade in which he can build things.

He likes to play the clown and performs magic tricks.

His mother says that he has had the headaches since St Nicholas' Eve; he was very excited about that.

"Sometimes I don't like going to school. Sometimes it's too much for me, too chaotic, too many people, too many friends. Then I just want to play alone. I have a friend who always wants to win. I don't like that, nor when they push me away."

"I only get angry with Mum." Then he withdraws to his room; he also cries when Mum is too much for him, or when others tease him or cheat during a game. He likes sport, plays football, tennis and swims.

Honesty and fairness are important to him. He can be stubborn and hold grudges. He does not forget an argument quickly. He is embarrassed that his mother talks about it and clutches her leg with his hand to make her stop.

Foods: likes potatoes, chips, pine nuts, beans, butter, salad, grapes and cherries; not too many sweets.

Dislikes: apples, pears, bananas, cheese and meat products, although he likes to gnaw on chicken bones.Frei-wie-ein-Vogel-Markus-Kuntosch.19719.jpg

He is fully immunised.

He loves animals, "they are beautiful". He knows a lot about them; he loves "snake skins because they shimmer" and above all the birds of prey: owls, hawks, buzzards, etc. He does not like large dogs. He would like a pet – a cat or a bird – but his mother is allergic.

He is afraid of falling. Physically he is rather cautious, because he has always been somewhat stiff in motor skills. He had physiotherapy for that. He is not afraid of heights.

In the past he was often frustrated when other people made decisions about him, e.g. the doctors in hospital. Then he would have liked to run away, often withdrew and sulked. He has never liked asking for help and usually deals with everything himself.

Analysis

The boy's alertness, originality and interest in the animal world made me think of a bird. His desire for independence and his frustration when others make decisions for him point to the hawk. His clear, enthusiastic facial expression when he told me that the hawk was one of his favourite animals also supported this. I consulted reference works and decided to give him Buteo jamaicensis C200.

Later I also noticed that the warts made his skin look like that of a plucked bird.

Follow-up

Before the next appointment I spoke several times by phone with the mother.

He cycles now, which he did not do before.

His molluscum warts have decreased, though the skin is still dry.

He has grown and become a little cheeky. The mother now has to be stricter with him.

The head and stomach pains have lessened.

He is doing very well at school.

At night he sometimes has "growing pains" in his shins.

Follow-up two months later

No complaints at the moment. He has become a bit boastful. He now cycles to school. He has only a few warts left on his chest.

He now stays at school over lunchtime and is not so easily thrown off track. His movements have become more fluid and he "feels comfortable in his skin". He likes to play tricks on his mother and tells jokes.

Recommendation:

Repeat the remedy if necessary.

I have not seen him for one and a half years now, but I occasionally receive feedback that he is doing very well.
