Portrait of Stuart Close

Stuart Close

Stuart Close
1860-1929

was born on November 24, 1860 in Wisconsin, USA. His father died in 1879 when he was already a student at the faculty of law. His mother's second marriage was to one of the leading homeopaths in San Francisco.

This aroused Stuart's interest, and he determined to study homeopathy himself. His stepfather gave him a comprehensive introduction to the teachings of Samuel Hahnemann's Organon. His homeopathic training was by B. Fincke and P. P. Wells, among others. He finished his studies at the faculty of medicine in 1885.

Stuart Close practiced in Brooklyn and taught homeopathy at the “New York Homeopathic Medical College.“ He is known for his precision when working with the principles of Hahnemann. Close had an immense knowledge of the materia medica.

He devoted himself particularly to the treatment of difficult chronic illness. The application and exactitude with which Dr. Close followed the teachings of Hahnemann brought him great respect from his homeopathic colleagues. In 1905 he was elected president of the International Hahnemannian Association.
