Cordyceps sinensis – a medicinal fungus with a long tradition

Cordyceps sinensis capsules from Unimedica contain the special CS-4 extract of the medicinal fungus Cordyceps sinensis with 40 % polysaccharides. What does CS-4 extract mean?

So that a large number of people can enjoy the numerous advantages of the rare Cordyceps sinensis, a special procedure has been developed to grow cordyceps. The fungi are grown as the valuable mycelium without fruiting bodies in a natural nutrient solution. The nutrient solution is completely assimilated, resulting in the so-called CS-4, which is so similar to the wild mushroom that it can be called cordyceps.

The breeding mycelium (CS-4) thrives in a controlled situation without environmental effects in a natural nutrient solution without cereals or similar materials.

Cordyceps sinensis capsules from Unimedica use a CS-4 extract in the ratio 10 : 1, enclosed in a plant-based capsule shell. So it is also perfect for vegetarian or vegan nutrition.

In the CS-4 extract the active ingredients are highly concentrated whereas the inactive components such as water and fibre are removed. The high concentration of active ingredients compared to a normal whole fungus makes it possible to conveniently take 2 capsules a day and still gain maximum benefit from this healing fungus.

Cordyceps, also known as caterpillar fungus, is a sac fungus. It comes almost exclusively from the highlands of Tibet and cannot be cultivated. Cordyceps fungi are so rare and harvesting it in the Tibetan highlands is so difficult that it is one of the most expensive delicacies in the world. Cordyceps is a popular culinary fungus especially in China, where it has also been used as a traditional medicinal fungus for more than 600 years.

Its name comes from its external appearance, which resembles a caterpillar.

To protect the natural populations and to make the ingredients of the fungus more affordable, CS-4 has been developed as a cultivated form of cordyceps. This extract is used for our capsules.
