stinking brown mass (HG), leaving a yellow-brown sharp
slimy mess behind (HG). Slippery, slimy (HG). It slips between
your fingers like putty. This is the way I imagine my brains. It
is slimy and there are no more normal connections.”
AS:
Tell me more about slimy?
P:
“It feels like “srrrlp” (HG) (she makes a sound as if she is
sucking something up.) I am being sucked up (HG), and
then there is slime. Slime means disintegration, chaos,
death.
My daughter demands a lot of energy. She has been depressed
for years. That feels like “ssrrlp” too (HG). As though I am
being drained, as though she creeps under my skin, I become
eaten up, and then it is slimy (HG).”
AS:
What is “sssrrlp”?
P:
“To take something in me, and then it becomes slime (HG).”
AS:
Tell me about shamanism.
P:
“Drumming brings me in a trance, then I am beyond the
cycle of life and death. It means that I can be renewed, it brings
about expansion, transformation. Then, there are the right
connections, regeneration (HG), the opposite of disintegration
(HG) and slime (HG).”
Analysis and conclusions:
the whole case is about disinte-
gration, chaos, loss of connections. Via bugs and hydro-
chloric acid she comes to slime, a slimy mass that comes
about through disintegration. She connects this with her
daughter, who drains her energy, “sssrrlp”, and then she
becomes slime.
This is the language of fungi, the great transformers that disinte-
grate dead tissue and material. By listening to the language with
which our patients use their hands, we come to the layer where
we can find the remedy.

Our patient goes a step further and gives us the language that
belongs to the substance itself, slime. But now, which fungus
do we need? Because she had such an affinity with shamanism
and drumming, I chose Psilocybe.
THE EFFECTS OF THE PSYCHEDELIC FUNGI
The Central American Indians have a mushroom culture
that is many centuries old. The Aztecs used them in mytho-
logical and sacramental rituals. Nowadays, the emphasis
TIMOTHY LEARY
The psychologist and guru of the hippies wrote
after his first experience of transcendence with
the Mexican magic mushrooms: “In four hours
by that swimming pool in Guernavaca I learned
more about the mind, the brain and its struc-
tures than I did in the preceding fifteen years
as a diligent psychologist.
“I learned that the brain is an underutilized
biocomputer containing billions of unaccessed
neurons. I learned that normal consciousness
is one drop in an ocean of intelligence. That
consciousness and intelligence can be system-
atically expanded. The brain can be repro-
grammed.”
