Preface:

The nature maintains a healthy normal equilibrium with the help of the feedback mechanism. Thereby under normal healthy circumstances the chances of a deficiency or excess are ruled out. And the same holds true for the human organism. A sensor detects deviations from given normal set point and triggers compensatory changes that continue until the set point is again reached. Similarly, the secretion of hormones is also based on this feedback mechanism.

The diseases due to hormonal imbalance demand restoration of the normal hormonal equilibrium. The conventional mode of treatment in cases of hypo functioning of the endocrine glands is to supplement the deficiency and vice versa in cases of hyper functioning.

The use of the hormonal extracts is not restricted to the dominant school of medicine. The homoeopathic armamentarium derives its weapons (in the form of drugs) from all possible sources provided by Mother Nature. The potentised form of the glandular extracts or secretions is known as 'Sarcodes'. Conventionally these sarcodes have been used in low potencies in the corresponding diseases, with varying results in the homoeopathic fraternity.

But, is the use of these medicinal substances really so restricted? No, the sarcodes may be used as a constitutional remedy, as an Intercurrent or an Antidote, as my "Guru Dr. J. N. Majumdar taught me. Thinking on his lines I am presenting the following discussion on two of the most important sarcodes of the present era - Throidinum and Folliculinum.

I hope that this small discussion will encourage all of us to think on similar lines in the same manner about other sarcodes too.
