Embarrassingly good: the popular culinary seaweed in organic quality

Organic Dulse Flakes from Unimedica are 100% natural. The red dulse seaweed (Palmaria palmata), also called sea lettuce flakes, is harvested wild and hand-picked in organic quality in France. Then the seaweed is gently dried at low temperatures and carefully ground into flakes that can be eaten raw. This red dulse is one of the most popular types of seaweed – not solely due to its unique taste but also because of its rich palette of nutrients. Among other things dulse is rich in iodine, which supports many important body functions. It plays an especially important role in thyroid function.

It doesn’t always have to be crystal salt

The salty dulse flakes are excellent as a finishing touch for meat dishes, pasta, fish or vegetables, also as an ingredient in bread or as a salad topping. As a flavouring these flakes give the food a nutty and spicy taste, bringing an unusual maritime flair to every dish. The red colour is an eye-catching highlight, brightening up the food. Dulse contains plenty of fibre. The red seaweed is naturally rich in iodine and should therefore be used sparingly.

Why dulse flakes belong to our diet

Although there are several types of seaweed, such as nori or wakame, each has its own unique character in terms of taste and nutrient quality. The nutritious dulse is an optimal supplement to a balanced diet and is also suitable for vegans. It can form an exciting part of every diet as an alternative to table salt and as a flavouring with a unique flavour.

A food with a very long history

There are many types and red shades of dulse. The edible plant species is one of the red seaweeds and is perennial. It can grow to 50 cm in height. Dulse (Palmaria palmata) is the only species of Palmaria that grows in the Atlantic. As an edible seaweed it has a long tradition going back to the sixth century. Especially in Ireland, Iceland and Canada it has long been prized as an important part of the diet.

    FINE FOOD
I’d never heard of these special flakes before Narayana brought out these dulse ones.
They’re spicy and salty (like an ocean breeze) but not too much, mildly spicy, very aromatic, umami and they remind me of fresh sardines or anchovies, totally replacing salt as a condiment in the kitchen. If you like seafood and fish, you’ll be pleased with these dulse flakes. You can just taste the class. Of course I’m totally happy to find them in organic quality.
I spread the aubergine-coloured dulse on every vegetable, mixing it into salads and putting it on homemade pizza and under the tomato sauce. It’s really easy to use and versatile, and it also means I’ve got my important iodine covered.
Dulse flakes also contain other minerals and vitamin A. They’re really healthy ... and well tasty!
