Since the publication of the tenth edition in 1959, so much advances have been made in different items of Medicine that to incorporate these in a comparatively small-sized text-book in a clear-cut and easily comprehensible form within the reach of in average medical student and a busy general practitioner, is a severe task.

I have carefully scrutinized every item before incorporating it in the book and with the help of my able collaborators who are engaged in teaching Medicine in o j r Medical Colleges, I have been able to take out many items no longer so current or essential and put in their places, the cream of the recent advances taking care to reduce the size of the book to one a little over 1300 pages.

I hope my readers will now find the book more suited to their special needs : more compact, straight-forward yet fairly comprehensive (probably more than most of the similar smaller books), giving maximum information in minimum space with moderate price.
